Melk Bar à Café

5612, avenue de Monkland, Montréal

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Opened in 2013 on Avenue de Monkland — the brand's very first café — by Dominique Jacques, who trained in London at Prufrock Coffee under Jeremy Challender and World Barista Champion Gwilym Davies. The company roasts its certified-organic coffee in Montreal and packs it in compostable bags.

Covered by Tastet and profiled by Forbes in 2023, Melk was named Montreal's Best New Roaster at the 2020 Th3rdwave Awards. The brand now runs four locations; the original Monkland café remains known for its detailed latte art and house-made pastries.
