Malhi Sweets

880, rue Jarry Ouest, Montréal

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Punjabi institution founded by Gurnam Singh Malhi, who arrived from Punjab in 1992. He opened a first Malhi Sweets on Jean-Talon in 1994, then a second location on Jarry Ouest in 1996 — the Jarry address is the one that kept the Malhi Sweets name, as the neighbourhood came to identify it that way. Malhi was among the very first Indian restaurateurs in Parc-Extension, a neighbourhood that had none at the time.

Vegetarian North Indian cooking is the house strength, with dal makhani and fish pakora as signature dishes, and gulab jamun as the essential dessert.
