Garde Manger

408 rue Saint-François-Xavier

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Opened in June 2006 in Old Montreal by chef Chuck Hughes with friends Tim Rozon and Kyle Marshall Nares, Garde Manger built its name on seafood and a hearty cocktail list. Hughes went on to win the Iron Chef America title in 2008, bringing the restaurant national attention.

Now a nearly two-decade-old neighbourhood institution, the room appears in the Michelin Guide Quebec selection. Tartare, lobster and shellfish remain central to a no-frills kitchen, set against a loud, music-driven room.
