Tacos Frida

4350 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Taqueria opened in 2015 on Notre-Dame Ouest by Enrique Chan Morales, his mother and his brother, originally from Oaxaca — the project started small, with $2 tacos grilled on George Foreman machines. The name honours Frida Kahlo, whose paintings decorated Enrique's childhood home.

The menu draws on Oaxacan recipes rather than generic Tex-Mex: tacos al pastor and cecina, grilled dry-aged beef served with Oaxacan cheese, guacamole and radish. The spot is marking its tenth anniversary this year.
