Restaurant Gandhi

230 rue Saint-Paul Ouest

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Opened in 2001 by owner Faruk, who had noticed there was no Indian restaurant in Old Montreal at the time. For more than two decades the room has served Indian cuisine with Bangladeshi influences, entirely halal, set in a white-tablecloth dining room unusual for the genre.

Gandhi has built a reputation as a reliable address for neighbourhood regulars and visitors alike, known for fragrant curries and naan served in a dimly lit room.
