The land · 01

Twenty-eight hectares.
One island.

At the western edge of Montréal, rows of vines descend through Senneville on land that feels farther from the city than the map allows.

Souffle de Vie describes its estate as 28 hectares with 27,000 vines. It is the only vineyard on the Island of Montréal: an agricultural room in the city, surrounded by trees, water, horses and the long geometry of the rows.

The first surprise is that it exists. The better reason to return is that it has become a place to taste, sit outside and watch Montréal behave like wine country.

From the Loire to Senneville.

Philippe Druelle did not arrive at wine as a branding exercise. He arrived with a family memory of the land.

Born in France’s Loire region and raised around farming, Druelle acquired the Senneville property in 2011. The first vines went into the ground two years later.

The site asked for adaptation: cold winters, protected rows and a Montréal microclimate shaped by elevation, nearby water and the surrounding trees. Classic European grapes grow beside varieties selected for Québec conditions. The result belongs to both places.

A cellar with two accents.

The estate’s current public material names familiar European grapes alongside cold-hardy varieties suited to Québec. Availability moves with the cellar and the season.

The cellar

Wine made here.

Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Chenin meet Petite Perle, Marquette and Saint-Pépin. The point is not novelty alone: it is a working Montréal vineyard finding the grapes that belong on its land.

Come for a glass.
Stay in the landscape.

Souffle de Vie is not only a bottle to take home. The tasting room and terrace make the vineyard a West Island afternoon: a guided visit, a flight, a board for the table and time outside among the vines.
