Restaurant Bonaparte

443, rue Saint-François-Xavier, Montréal

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Opened in 1984 by Louis H. Ladouceur inside an 1886 building constructed for Judge Joseph-Amable Berthelot — the "Berthelot 1886" inscription still marks the façade. Chef Claude Postel's French cuisine built the restaurant's reputation from the start, at a time when Old Montreal was still quiet.

Taken over and modernized in 2017 by the Epik group, Bonaparte ranks among OpenTable's top 100 romantic restaurants and has hosted guests including Julia Roberts and Halle Berry.
