On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.
A Greek counter on Park Avenue, founded by Joanna Chery, describing itself as the coziest snack counter in town for authentic Greek phyllo pies. The name pays tribute to Melina Mercouri, the Greek actress, singer and politician, and the décor evokes Greece's mid-twentieth-century golden era.
The specialty is spanakopita, with other phyllo pies in feta-ricotta or leek, plus Greek sandwiches, salads and homemade cookies. The room is small, with few seats and a terrace on Park, and the house does catering.
Melina Phyllo Bar is on the Regulars map — noted, not yet visited. Our guides are written on foot, door by door, and nobody pays to be in them. Whether the house takes part in Regulars is still to be confirmed. No points, no coupons — standing is earned.
