Gryphon d'Or Tearoom

5968, avenue de Monkland, Montréal

On our map. We haven't walked through the door yet — here's why it's on the list.

Tearoom tucked on Avenue de Monkland since 2003, taken over by Donna Malin from her former employer Peggy Regan — who now runs the bakery of the same name next door and still supplies the scones and desserts. The décor mixes burnt-orange walls, wooden tables and canvases by Montreal artist Shirley Katz.

The traditional tea service, praised by Tastet, includes sweet-and-savoury trays and same-day scones for roughly $30 per person; on the regular menu, the "sconitches" — sandwiches served on a scone — remain a house signature.
