Greenspot

3041, rue Notre-Dame Ouest, Montréal · 1947

Opened in 1947 at the corner of Greene and Notre-Dame — hence the name. Moved opposite in 1989, with the decor reassembled identically.

Restaurant Greenspot was born in 1947 at the corner of Greene and Notre-Dame streets, in Saint-Henri — “green marks the spot”, as the phrase that gave it its name goes. In 1989, the house crossed the street, but nothing was thrown away: jukebox, vinyl benches and counter stools were dismantled, then reassembled identically in the new space.

“The current look of Greenspot is the original decor from 1947. When we moved, we took everything and put it all back together,” says Jon Pavlakos, co-owner alongside Nick Ioannidis, Louis Stavropoulos and Stellios Kiliaris. In the kitchen, Denis Vavougios has been preparing house recipes for 42 years — more than 30 variations of poutine on a menu that the house refuses to touch: their customers, they say, come back precisely to find dishes that have not changed for years.

In 2022, for its 75th anniversary, Greenspot offered steamers for 75 cents and free meals to customers over 75. Gerry Greenblatt, a regular for twenty years, summed up: “It's the best steamie, the best fry. ”

"Greenspot's current look is actually the original decor from 1947. When we moved, we took it all with us and set it up again."
