The name has not changed for over 50 years. In 2013, four new owners took over the place — without touching the decor.
The Bar de Courcelle has existed in Saint-Henri under this name for more than fifty years. Its history goes back well before its reopening in 2013, the year when Tony Campanelli (owner of Café Campanelli), Alex Le Jeune, Éric Le François and Jessi Lee Favard took over the keys. For the sake of preserving the rich heritage of the place, they chose to keep the decor as is: “We made everything more functional, but otherwise, everything is authentic,” explain the new owners.
The interior is reminiscent of a diner from the 1960s and 70s: metal coverings at the counter and on the tables, period textures and materials, nothing fake old. A terrace at the back, counted among the most beautiful in Montréal, completes the ensemble. Bands perform there on Mondays and Wednesdays, and an open mic hosts Sunday evenings.
On the menu: draft and bottled beers, house cocktails by Arnaud Leduc, comfort food dishes — tartiflette, chili con carne, charcuterie plates — between $12 and $27, and a appetizer menu from $2.75 to $17. “We see everything here, whether it’s people in suits or just coming to have a drink: we are very attached to our customers,” summarize the owners.
